A 900-Acre Washington Ranch With a Shooting Range and a Poker Room Lists for $14 Million
The lavish equestrian compound has a 12,000-square-foot main lodge, horse stalls and cattle fields
A 900-acre lakeside equestrian estate in Washington state that has a 12,000-square-foot lodge, a spa pavilion, a workshop/garage and a helicopter pad has just been listed for $14 million.
The resort-style property, known as Buck Quarter Ranch, hit the market Friday in the tiny town of Cusick, whose population barely tops 200.
“Buck Quarter Ranch is like its own town,” said listing agent Cassandra Petersen, of the Pacific Palisades office of Coldwell Banker Realty, who’s co-listing the home with Megan and Rich Watson of the Watson Group of Compass. “I’ve never sold a whole town before.”
The compound, she added, “is pretty much the trophy estate of the town and of northeast Washington. It’s unique—you would have to go to Idaho or Montana to get something similar. There is nothing on the market close to this.”
Megan Watson added that unlike some of the surrounding areas that have many attractions easily accessible to Buck Quarter Ranch, Washington doesn’t have a state income tax.
It is being sold by an estate, according to Petersen, who said the late owner, who used it as a vacation home, acquired it about 14 years ago.
“He bought it sight unseen—he saw it in a magazine when he was on a plane,” she said, adding that he updated and renovated the buildings.
Since 2004, the owner, according to property records, has been a foreign limited liability company.
The estate, which encompasses 150 private acres of Brownie and Metcalf Lakes, announces itself with an equestrian center at its entrance that’s surrounded by a cattle field, horse stalls, a wash station and pastures.
The main house, which is on the edge of the lake, is made of logs and has panoramic views. It has a two-story fireplace, vaulted ceilings, imported chandeliers and a custom lighting system that highlights every architectural detail.
The 8,000-square-foot spa pavilion, which is connected to the house, has a host of high-end amenities, including a lap pool, a children’s pool, and a 12-seat whirlpool spa. It also has a Swedish dry sauna, a steam room and an exercise room. Its lounge, which is centered around a two-sided stone fireplace, has a poker room.
The 2,800-square-foot guest house, which is on the lake, has a gourmet kitchen, while there’s another, rustic 500-square-foot log cabin.
There also is a caretaker’s cottage and a 6,800-square-foot workshop/garage that includes storage for all-terrain vehicles.
The estate has a variety of outdoor sporting amenities that range from a shooting gallery and rifle range to fishing and swimming docks. There also is a wade-in sandy beach and a lake island that has a spit, a tepee and fire pit for those who want to rough it and camp out overnight.
Petersen noted that because more than half of the land is buildable, the estate offers the opportunity of several possible new uses.
“It could be a getaway for someone in the tech sector or the celebrity world who wants to use it as a private resort,” she said, adding that it also could be a luxury dude ranch.
Buck Quarter Ranch, Megan Watson added, “is top shelf. It’s a great private escape with a Yellowstone flair and close access to resort cities like Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. It has everything you want all within its gates. There’s nothing else quite like it in the state.”
