Inside Rihanna’s $21M LA penthouse once owned by Matthew Perry
Pop star Rihanna has splashed out a cool $21 million for a nearly 9,300-square-foot Los Angeles penthouse formerly owned by “Friends” mainstay Matthew Perry.
Dubbed the “mansion in the sky,” the four-bedroom, eight-bathroom residence occupies the building’s entire 40th floor — big enough for the singer and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their growing family. They welcomed a boy last year, and are now expecting their second child.
The Century high rise unit boasts panoramic city, mountain and ocean views — and has been described as “hovering above the city like a floating palace.”
Features include a grand living room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a plush screening room, a billiards room — and an all-white kitchen with marble countertops, dual islands and premium appliances. There are also four expansive terraces.
The primary suite boasts curved wall of glass, a seating area with a fireplace, dual baths and expansive closets.
Interior designer LM Pagano was brought into transform the place.
Amenities in the gated building include around-the-clock concierge and security, an oversize pool with cabanas, a top-of-line gym and fitness studio, a movie theater and private wine storage.
The residence was formerly owned by Perry, who purchased the unit back in 2017 for $20 million. Perry later sold the residence in a record-breaking sale that was Southern California’s priciest condo in 2021 for $21.6 million. He hoped to score $35 million.
Nick Molnar, the billionaire co-founder of tech company Afterpay, bought it from the actor. But it looks like Molnar is willing to take a slight loss.
Initially listing the home in October for $28 million, Rihanna was able to negotiate it down $8 million, possibly using LA’s new mansion tax implemented on April 1 as a bargaining tool.
Other famous residents at The Century include Denzel Washington and Candy Spelling, whose $35 million two-floor penthouse just above Rihanna’s occupies the top two floors of the building.
Rihanna, 35, also has another, smaller unit in the building, which spans 3,500 square feet. She has used this condo as her primary residence since 2014.
The singer also owns two side-by-side mansions in the mountains above Beverly Hills for a combined $23.8 million, but both are reportedly leased out to tenants.
Greg Holcomb and Cassandra Petersen with Compass held the listing. James Harris and David Parnes with The Agency repped Rihanna in the sale. Both agencies declined to comment.
